Education Options for Parents/Guardians of Prudence Island Children

Parents and/or Guardians on Prudence Island have several options for the education of their children. They can enroll their children in Portsmouth Public Schools; they can home-school their children, or they can apply to the Prudence Island School Foundation (PISF). The PISF is not a public school. It is a tuition-based, non-profit program for students in grades pre-K through 12.

Note: Students in grades K-4 do not have to pay tuition due to an agreement between the PISF and the Town of Portsmouth. Also, per that agreement, children in grades K-4 have the option to attend elementary school in Bristol.

Acceptance into the PISF’s program is based on students’ needs, parent/guardian goals for their child or children, and the PISF’s ability to meet those goals and needs. The application process may take up to two months to complete and there is no guarantee of acceptance. If you are considering enrolling your child or children into our program, we ask that you contact us as soon as possible. A meeting will be arranged to discuss your child’s or children’s educational needs and to explain our program. We ask that you bring all available relevant material to this meeting such as progress reports, testing results, and past or current IEPs.
